Brazilian legend Alemao is convinced that former club Napoli are on the right road to a glorious future.

The former midfielder won the UEFA Cup and a Scudetto with the Azzurri during his four years at the club. Now he's convinced that fresh honours will soon arrive.

"I am certain that Napoli will return to being amongst the top teams in the Italian championship," he told Radio Kiss Kiss.

"However, I do think that the side need one or two reinforcements in the January transfer window."

Alemao, whose full name is Ricardo Rogério de Brito, joined Napoli in 1988 from Atletico Madrid.

Napoli have struggled in the post Diego Maradona years, even falling into the Italian Third Division after financial collapse.

Under ambitious President Aurelio De Laurentiis, they are now widely regarded as top-four contenders.

Now European regulars, the Azzurri lost 3-1 at Anfield to Liverpool on Thursday night in their Europa League clash.
