The defender returned after three months out injured and Napoli have secured second place in Serie A, but Juventus clinched their eighth consecutive Serie A title with more ease than usual.
“It’s not entirely up to us. We know that the club is working to improve the squad, we’ve been together for a while now and the new players integrated from the first day,” Albiol told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“It’s a pity we didn’t finish the campaign with a trophy, but in football anything can change from one year to the next. Now we’ll prepare for next season.”
Napoli fans have been protesting in recent weeks, even throwing Jose Callejon’s jersey back at him, as they believe the team underperformed.
“Only Maradona, the best player in the world, managed to win the Scudetto here. Over the last eight years, the same club has won every time, which means the other 19 haven’t won and therefore it’s really difficult.
“The only thing we can do is work hard and try every day. You never know when the right moment will come and the important thing is to be prepared.”
