Raul Albiol has asked critics to lay off former Napoli teammate Kalidou Koulibaly, who remains ‘one of the best defenders in the world’.

Corriere dello Sport sported on its front page for Wednesday how Koulibaly was responsible for five of the seven goals Napoli had conceded in their first two Serie A games.

“I always talk to Kalidou, we did so all summer,” Albiol, who previously partnered the Senegalese in the Partenopei’s central defence, told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“We know he’s one of the best defenders in the world, so he must stay calm and we have to let him work.

“This international break will allow the team to work and come back better for it. Napoli have everything to have a good season in a defensive sense.”

The Spaniard recently joined Villarreal after six years at the San Paolo, and he admits he ‘misses a bit of everything’ in southern Italy.

“I had some beautiful years, my children grew up there. The Napoli fans always show me so much affection.

“I miss a bit of everything, but now I’m embarking on a new experience in Spain, which is near my home.

“Still, I’ll always support Napoli and I’m always in touch with my former teammates. I’m sure it’ll be a good year for the team.”
