Albertini said it’s a shame, but also compared it to having too many 'stars' in the squad and insisted it’s futile to search for 'the guilty one' in the current circumstances at the Rossoneri.
“In my opinion there’s great confusion,” Albertini told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “I believe that Milan have lost a valid element, but it’s like in the dressing room.
“If there are many stars, many heads will collide, it’s useless to search for the guilty one. It’s not that someone made a mistake, in the end the season has gone wrong and Milan are the losers.
“Now, they need a clear sporting project. It’s of no use to start from scratch every year. If Milan are only an economic project, let them say it.”
The former midfielder has pointed out that Milan would be right to invest in young players, but warned that the youth need an environment with more experienced players in order to develop into top players.
“Investing in the youth is correct, but the youngsters in Italy aren’t enough. Experienced players are needed to help the youngsters grow and I say this out of experience.
“Young people can’t have consistency. The Italian clubs need Italian players. I grew up in a strong team, I won thanks to the Dutch and thanks to [George] Weah and [Zvonimir] Boban and others, then there were us.
“The sense of belonging and experts to learn from. Without it, the young players are not enough.”
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was a breath of fresh air when he returned to San Siro in January and Albertini has claimed he proved enough to keep playing in the Italian top tier.
“Milan seemed like a pond of water and Zlatan was the stone thrown into the pond, he created waves,” Albertini said. “He showed that he can still play in Serie A, maybe not all the matches, but that doesn’t count.”
