Ajax goalkeeper Onana has made up his mind between Inter and Barcelona

Ajax goalkeeper André Onana has decided to sign for Inter as a free agent despite Barcelona’s interest.

The 25-year-old Cameroonian shot stopper has been increasingly linked with the Nerazzurri in recent months but the recent interest from Barcelona looked to pose a threat in the race to sign him on a free transfer.

Onana has made up his mind now and Fabrizio Romano reports that the 25-year-old “respects Barça but he’s planning to sign with Inter as soon as it’s regularly allowed.” The work to sign the player is now nearing its end, with Romano closing the report with his signature “here we go confirmed.”

The Ajax goalkeeper will be able to sign a pre-contract with Inter in the upcoming January transfer window, securing his future in Milan whilst he finishes the season with the Eredivisie giants. It had previously been suggested he was leaning towards Barcelona.

Onana seems to prioritise Barcelona over Inter

Onana was an instrumental part of the Ajax side that lost to Tottenham in the 2018-19 Champions League semi-finals, playing the full 90 minutes of every game in that run.

His career took a downturn in February of this year after he received a nine month ban for testing positive for Furosemide, a diuretic. Onana was initially given a 12-month ban, later reduced to nine months on appeal, and he returned to action for Ajax in November in a 2-1 win at Besiktas.
