The proposal needs the agreement from the players, who seem willing to bring the 18:30 UK time and 20:45 UK time matches forward, but Calcagno reveals the ones scheduled at 16:15 UK time are providing the current obstacle to reach an agreement.
It has been considered by the new President of the AIC Calcagno, who took charge after the resignation of Damiano Tommasi, and he spoke to Radio Anch’io Sport.
“We are thinking about it together with the League. We don’t agree on bringing forward the afternoon game,” he said. “We ask that in an exceptional situation that everyone must stand together.
“We are only reasoning; it seems to me that the players are showing responsibility in an emergency.”
Calcagno pointed to the problematic process of getting the players back on the pitch in recent months.
“It was a long, difficult job. What was valid for one week, was not valid the next. I think it’s normal that the perception for the players was not the same for everyone.
“The work done was very important, if it didn’t start again, it would have brought devastating consequences.”
Calcagno stressed that the impact on the players will be no less strenuous during the last eight games of the championship.
“It’s presumed that the physical aspect has an ever increasing importance in the next games too, having to recover every three days with teams that don’t have the squads required for such commitments and players who aren’t used to recovering in such short amount of time.”
