According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus President Andrea Agnelli will unveil a project for a new Super League during the Business of Football Summit today.

The first project for a breakaway Super League was first unveiled in April 2021, but collapsed within 48 hours. It had been presented by 12 of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Juventus, Milan and Inter.

Premier League clubs withdrew from the project a few hours after the official unveiling, but plans for an alternative European competition have continued. On paper, Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona are the only clubs still involved in the project. La Gazzetta reports that Agnelli and Florentino Perez have been working on an alternative plan which will be unveiled by the Old Lady’s chairman at the Financial Times’ Business of Football Summit today.

It would be a project slightly different from the original one. Similarly to the UEFA Nations League, it would have promotions and relegations. There could be 24 clubs gaining direct access to the competition every season, based on the results of the previous European campaign, plus eight clubs qualifying from the league. However, it’s still unclear how clubs could secure their spot from national competitions and Agnelli is likely to provide further updates today.

11 thought on “Agnelli to unveil project for new Super League today?”
  1. The “Super” League will probably happen eventually in one form or another.

But obviously it’d have to be a far better version of what those clowns came up with the last time.

No one will watch a league without relegation.

  2. For some reason my previous two posts didn’t post.

Basically: this guy is deluded if he is proposing a new super league during the war

  3. Agnelli is just such a dislikable character. He’s incompetent as a football Chairman and a greedy greedy man. This is coming from a juve fan. The sooner this clown leaves the world of football the better

  4. See if you still feel the same once the premier league dominate European football. How else are they going to compete financially with the premier league?

  5. The super league will be the final nail in the coffin for soul of the game. These blind morons with more dollars than sense can’t see past their own arrogance. No one will watch the super league. It’ll be the death of football. What’s makes big games so exciting is that they come just a few times a season.

  6. Super league, World Cup every two years … where are we going?

The most beautiful aspect of this game is that you will play Inter, then go to Salerno to have a dog fight with a relegation battling team, and guess what, they might stop you. The most beautiful thing about this sport is the story of Leicester, or Porto and Monaco making it to the Champions League final, or Atalanta making the semis, or Greece winning the Euros …

    I could go on.

  7. There’s no reason why UEFA should have a monopoly on European football. Competition is healthy.

And it’s obviously preferable to have all the biggest clubs and all the best players in the world in one league together.

    It’s a no brainier.

  8. People are still blindly following the trend to just hate on the Super League.

They have made changes and more inclusive reforms. The way things are right now is not healthy.

UEFA has so much control when more control should be given to the clubs.
