Juventus President Andrea Agnelli warns it will take “reform of Serie A” for Italian football to return to pre-Calciopoli levels.

The scandal saw the Bianconeri stripped of two Scudetti and demoted to Serie B, with Lazio, Milan and Fiorentina also implicated.

“In 2006, Italian revenues were similar to those in other Leagues,” Agnelli told a Press conference after today’s sharholders’ meeting.

“Then what happened, happened. Italian football stopped there. We started again in about 2010 or 2011, so we’re still five years behind.

“The health of Italian football is different to that of the German League, or the Spanish or English ones.

“For the next two or three years all we can do is continue to grow, always behind by those five years. We need to compare ourselves to the level of the biggest European teams five or six years ago.

“Then it’ll take reform of Serie A. There are fans in Italy, the football is of a good level and passion is there.

“With some corrections our football can go roaring back to the top, where it was in the past. The dimension of Italian football is enormous, there’s room to do well.

“We’ll have four teams guaranteed [in the Champions League]. There’s no reason that Italian football can’t have two teams in the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League in a few years.

“The room to grow and recover is huge.”

An investigation revealed an alleged ‘Ndrangheta boss in the Curva Sud at Juventus Stadium, and Agnelli and general manager Giuseppe Marotta addressed that.

“No Juve employee is under investigation,” Agnelli said.

“We never gave tickets as gifts or gave gifts of any kind.”

“No Juventus director has ever given tickets to any fan,” added Marotta.
