Many saw this as a rebuke to Napoli, who had released a statement hours earlier on the CONI appeal victory.

Napoli had been docked a point and given an automatic 3-0 defeat for not attending the Serie A match against Juventus on October 4.

They lost the first two appeals, but won the third, which ruled they acted in ‘good faith’ by contacting the local health authority for information on a potential travel ban.

Napoli had just two COVID-19 positive players at the time, Piotr Zielinski and Eljif Elmas.

Juve also had two players out with Coronavirus last night, Alex Sandro and Juan Cuadrado, but followed the protocol by waiting until the day of the game to make their journey to Milan with only those who had provided negative COVID swabs.

Napoli, on the other hand, cancelled their trip and did not make alternative arrangements in case the travel ban was lifted.

Milan also had two players ruled out by COVID-19, Ante Rebic and Rade Krunic, but the game went ahead and Juventus won 3-1.
