President Andrea Agnelli broke his silence to admit he feels ‘ashamed’ and must ‘apologise’ to fans after the Champions League defeat to Maccabi Haifa, but Max Allegri ‘will remain the Juventus coach.’

It was the final straw in a so-far pretty much disastrous campaign in both Serie A and Europe, which leaves them bottom of the group and potentially out of the Champions League already.

The calls are now deafening to sack their coach Allegri, but it was President Agnelli who surprisingly went to speak to Sky Sport Italia after the match.

“This is a difficult night in a difficult period. It is one of the most difficult periods and the moment to take responsibility, which is why I am here,” said Agnelli.

“I feel ashamed for what is happening, I am angry, but I also know that football is played with 11 men, you lose and win with 11.”

Inevitably, the patron was asked if Allegri would be fired, but held firm in his beliefs.

“In a situation like this, it’s not about one person. It’s a matter to be dealt with by a whole group. We feel ashamed, we apologise to our fans, because we know they must feel ashamed to walk around at the moment.

“Allegri is the coach of Juventus and he will remain as the coach of Juventus.”

Is it true that the club is refusing to consider axing Allegri because of how much his salary and long-term contract would weigh on their finances?

“No, no, you are completely off track here. It cannot be the fault of the coach if we don’t win a single tackle on the field.

“Juventus have always evaluated situations at the end of the year. I always struggled to consider a dismissal during a season and I continue to believe that.

“This is a group of 80-90 people working here and we must rediscover our spirit, allowing the team to put its qualities onto the pitch.”

  1. You can’t win tackles when u bring in Slowredes, let go of Rovella and Zakaria, and not start Bremer in a must win game ? Also, why not PERIN instead of that pole ? Whose fault is that ? Whose decision was to sign Kostic who can’t get a cross in or beat player 1:1 and not go for Kavara or Mudryk ? Whose decision was to extend the contract of his errand boy DeSciglio and keep Sandro ?

  2. Agnelli taking the team down with his pride. FFS, Allegri currently is not fit to run a team in Serie C1.

  3. Soule looked good in his last two appearances. He adds much needed creativity and heart to the team, but he only plays when the result is already decided.
I despise Allegri, but today’s performance lacked heart and was shameful and that is on the players. Allegri is a fool for benching Bremer and continuing to start cuadrado and paredes.

  4. CALMAAA!!!

Agnelli is a genius. He will soon ditch the fantasy of a super league and draw up new plans for bush league calcio. There he can delight in the weekly humiliations with other bush league teams.

  5. If not now ..when is a coach ever sacked according to Agnelli??

    Team not working
    Players not performing
    No points
    No clean sheets
    No scoring chances created
    No possession
    .. and the list continues
    OMG

  6. PhD Max is a freaking genius. He has no plan but still that is in effect a plan. Bush league calcio is possible and he has cracked it. Grande Max grande. Next year he is going to delight us with mountain goat calcio and he has all the Roberto King Carlos Sandro and bricklayer Cafu Danilo’s of the world to implement it.

  7. Oh really, but soon there are no fans left to feel ashamed. Obviously this boring outdated tactics does not work, even with 10 men defending the bus is too small without BBC.

  8. I’m not watching any of their games in protest. Allegri is the symptom of a much deeper malaise – the club is flawed right at the top all the way to recruitment especially which has been a disaster.
We got rid of a young lad called Rovella to Monza. He outshone all of our midfield – Paredes / Rabiot / Mckennie when we lost to them in Serie A. There are many more examples of this flawed transfer strategy. No matter what, “Rabiot sempre Rabiot”

  9. Congratulations Agnelli!!! You definitely take the right decision. Get ready now to finish 7th or 8th this year and in the Champions League group you may not even finish 3rd.

  10. I have no words I’m not going to watch another game in 2022 agnelli is a fool !!!!!!! He should leave too

  11. Put together an Italian block of players get rid of Kean Bremer vlahovic etc go back to the Italian core and thing will shape up.

  12. Max, please do the right thing.
Work out a little backroom deal with Agnelli & Co. (eg 50% pay if you walk), call a press conference and fall on your own sword.
You will earn nothing but respect.

  13. I’m going with your word…Trying to put the same situation during Pirlo stint, if it is not one’s mistake that a club fail….please tell why Pirlo terminated in 1 season ? Why is this inconsistency ?

  14. I agree with Italian we need a core of Italian players, plus we have no stars. We need a striker that scores like Del Piero did… We have let go of promising players that press on the ball like Luca Pellegrini, Rovella, Cambiosa – Id rather let these younger players develop into studs. They could be a core group to keep together with Miretti and Soule.
