Juventus President Andrea Agnelli isn’t bothered by rumours suggesting that he will leave the club and defends Massimiliano Allegri, saying he has a long-term project with the coach.

Juventus have gone through tough times on and off the pitch over the last few years. They’ve never been in the race to win the Scudetto during last two seasons and are facing a financial crisis that saw them announce a loss of nearly €210m for 2020-21. Nevertheless, the Bianconeri won two trophies under Andrea Pirlo last season and can win the Coppa Italia again this term.

They have qualified for the Final against Inter on May 11 and have a chance not to finish the season empty-handed for the first time since 2011. Agnelli has been linked with leaving the club lately, but the club’s chairman isn’t concerned by the rumours.

“I’ve heard these rumours for a long time. They’ve been around for years, not weeks and they don’t bother me. I am serene and I still have fun, which is the most important thing,” he told Il Foglio a San Siro, as quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Max Allegri’s project is really valid, he has brought back solidity and we have a long-term project with him. We know what we want to obtain, we knew it would have been challenging this season, but having regrets about the current campaign is encouraging for the future.

“Judgments would have been very different had we won against Inter. This makes us think, given that our duty is to make assessments at the end of the season.

“Every trophy counts,” Agnelli continued. “Sports have a crucial rule: you always start from the beginning. The most important trophy is the Serie A title because it shows the best team of the season. The one with more appeal is the Champions League, but every trophy counts.”

Juventus hired Maurizio Arrivabene in the summer, while Fabio Paratici left the club to join Tottenham. The Old Lady has faced some tricky situations off the pitch with the recent Plusvalenze trial (that saw the Bianconeri cleared), the investigation over Luis Suarez’s citizenship exam and the Super League.

“Arrivabene has brought balance inside the club, he is an operative chief,” said Agnelli. “He knows sports companies very well and he is an ideal CEO for a football club.

“It was a complicated year, but we respect the authorities investigating. Perhaps, we should focus on how news is commented depending on the situation.”

  1. My dream would be to hire andreazolli for the attacking coaching and keep allegri for the defensive coaching. Obviously it would never happen but it would make for some great football.

  2. @Juv+ I see your point. Like whichever club hires Conte should hire him just for the league and have a different coach for CL, Europe etc. 👍

  3. So if they sacked Pirlo for not winning league or CL and let’s be clear CL would never have been a target for Pirlo as he had zero coaching experience, then why sack him????

  4. angelli a waste of time who knows nothing about ftblll .I doubt he puts his shoes on correctly … If u have faith in allegri then I won’t be supporting juve again next season

  5. Juve’s winning cycle started with Agnelli taking over and bringing in Conte. Any Juve fan with a short memory ought to look that up. I don’t always agree with the guy but who can tell me we were better off under Blanc and Gigli??? Viva Agnelli!
