The extraordinary comments emerged in De Telegraaf today, trying to explain why the Ajax winger had changed his mind about joining the Partenopei after signing pre-contract agreements in January.

“When I saw the article this morning, I immediately doubted these were the player’s words,” Italy-based agent Nicola Innocentin told the Corriere dello Sport.

“I was with him 24 hours a day in Naples and nothing that was described in that article happened. The meeting with members of the Camorra (Neapolitan organised crime) was pure science fiction.

“The whole thing is built on theories and I was left open-mouthed with shock. We absolutely want to distance ourselves from this article.

“I was in a way not surprised that they took this route, seeing as De Telegraaf were repeatedly turned down for an interview. In fact, the writer has never been to Naples and didn’t talk to Arkadiusz Milik, who played for Ajax.

“This is a desperate attempt to make up a story and pulling the Mafia into it is just incredible. It’s not true either that Maurizio Sarri told Younes he’d need six months to settle in.

“I talked to the writer beforehand and he made threats, saying: ‘If the player doesn’t want to go to Napoli, he definitely won’t go after my article.’ He was trying everything to get an interview.”

Mystery continues to surround whether Younes will actually make the move to Napoli or not.

“He only received shows of affection in Naples and the fans welcomed him as one of their own. They even let him make a pizza in a pizzeria. The city doesn’t deserve to be insulted like this.

“He signed a five-year contract, what else is there to say! In January, he said that he didn’t want to play immediately in Serie A due to personal reasons and nothing has changed. I urged him to speak out, but the player behaves in the media the way he sees fit. He prefers to stay silent on the matter and we respect that.

“Amin signed a five-year contract, he will be present at the Dimaro pre-season training camp and I have no doubts on that. Thinking that he might not come now is a surreal hypothesis. Why wouldn’t he want to join a team that plays such spectacular football?

“Other clubs tried to approach us after he decided not to join Napoli immediately, but I explained to them that the situation was very clear. Anyone trying to tempt the lad away is wasting their time.

“Those who met him in Naples saw a guy who was happy to be there.”
