Matteo Politano’s agent confirms “we’re working” on a move to Inter for the Sassuolo forward but “there’s still no white smoke”.

This morning’s Gazzetta dello Sport suggested that the Nerazzurri were close to a deal, a loan with an obligation to buy.

Sky Italia reports that Politano has agreed on a five-year contract, but that there will be an option rather than obligation to buy.

However, that option may become mandatory if certain targets are met.

“We’re working, but things aren’t done yet,” Davide Lippi, one of Politano’s agents, told Sky.

“The player would be very happy to go to Inter, but there’s still no white smoke. We hope to get it done soon, we’re working on it.

“The will is there to do it, hopefully we can close things soon.”

The term 'white smoke' in Italy refers to the Vatican election for a new Pope, where updates are given with black smoke for no agreement and white smoke when they have reached a verdict.
