Sandro Tonali’s agent confirms ‘there are still a few things’ to be worked out between Milan and Newcastle United, but ‘he is helping’ his former clubs by accepting the €80m transfer.

The midfielder is currently in Romania for the Under-21 European Championship, so agent Beppe Riso and a representative from Newcastle flew out to meet him yesterday.

Riso returned to Milan this evening and was stopped at the airport by Sky Sport Italia and other reporters, asking if it was mission accomplished.

“Not yet, there are still a few days, a few things to work out. The lad is relaxed, he knows that when such important offers come in from such rich owners it is difficult for both the club and the player to turn down.

“We have agreed personal terms, so the clubs are working out the final details. Once that is done, he will undergo the medical over the next few days.”

There were reports Tonali had initially rejected the Newcastle move, but was told by Milan directors that they were going to accept the offer that reaches €80m including bonuses.

“No tears, the lad is focused on the national team. It’s a matter of bonuses and technical details, red tape. I can confirm it is a six-year contract.

“I am satisfied because it is a great operation. Sandro knows that in this move he will be helping both Milan and his first club Brescia, who he loves very much.

“It is also a perfect project for him, they want him at all costs and he will become a reference point for the squad.”

The reason Brescia are benefiting is because his hometown club has a cut of the sell-on fee as part of their original sale to Milan for €19.5m in 2020.
