Furio Valcareggi did not hold back in his interview with Radio CRC today, especially when it comes to Ventura walking out on Chievo just four games in.
“After Delio Rossi slapped Adem Ljajic on the Fiorentina bench, I thought I’d seen it all, and yet… As soon as the final whistle blew against Bologna, Ventura announced he wouldn’t come back to training.

Furio Valcareggi did not hold back in his interview with Radio CRC today, especially when it comes to Ventura walking out on Chievo just four games in.
“After Delio Rossi slapped Adem Ljajic on the Fiorentina bench, I thought I’d seen it all, and yet… As soon as the final whistle blew against Bologna, Ventura announced he wouldn’t come back to training.
“When Chievo call, you know it’s a fight to avoid relegation. I know Ventura very well and in his career, the only trophies he ever won were in Serie B.
“If Ventura were to go down with Chievo, it wouldn’t be a disaster, unlike what happened with him in charge of Italy. Yet every day Ventura would threaten to walk away from Chievo, so I ask myself why did he go there in the first place?
“I don’t know what Ventura wants to do next, but I don’t see who would hire him now. Maybe in China, but even that seems unlikely.”
Napoli appointed Ancelotti over the summer, with Maurizio Sarri eventually terminating his contract by mutual consent so he could join Chelsea.
However, Valcareggi reveals the timeline of this scenario was not quite so clear and a decision had been made when Napoli were still strong Scudetto contenders.
“I knew in March that Sarri had been dismissed and a friend of mine who works in England told me, ‘you’ll see he’ll come to London.’ The President had already decided not to continue with Sarri, then put on a bit of a show.
“Ancelotti was courted in the most incredible way to take the Italy job by Alessandro Costacurta, but if you are in charge of this Nazionale, it’s very tough to win anything.”
