It was widely reported in the past week that the Giallorossi were close to securing a deal for the Ivorian midfielder, which would have seen him move in the summer.

However, the 20-year-old’s agent – who was pictured allegedly meeting the Orobici over a move to Roma – says there was never any possibility.

“There’s an African proverb which says: ‘maybe it will happen when chickens grow teeth’,” George Atangana told calciomercato.com.

“There was absolutely never any contact between me and Roma, I was never called. I met with the Atalanta executives and they confirmed that talks never started.

“There are a lot of people who are only interested in disturbing the work of others, perhaps in the hope of being able to take advantage.

“There are too many boastful people in football today, we should stop them instead of giving them credit.

“These are often people without a culture of working, looking to make a quick buck on the back of work others do.

“To date the only real offers we’ve had have come from outside of Italy.

“I don’t think I need dishonest intermediaries, I brought Kessié to Atalanta all by myself after working hard on programming and scouting.

“It’s a clear symptom of those who get involved just because they get a whiff of a deal, they don’t care about the interests of the player.”
