Duvan Zapata’s agent Fernando Schena confirms the Colombian striker wanted to join Roma last summer, but Atalanta blocked his transfer to the Stadio Olimpico.

Zapata had joined Torino on a €10m deal from Atalanta last summer and scored two goals against his former club on Monday.

He was moved to tears during a post-match interview as he had only scored one goal for the Granata before the game against Atalanta.

“Duvan got emotional after the match. He lived something similar to a movie, or a dream,” his agent Schena told Sportitalia.

“He played against Atalanta, where he had spent five years. He loved the club and the city of Bergamo.

“Duvan is always upset when he doesn’t score. It wasn’t an easy moment, but he faced it professionally. He always works hard to improve.”

The experienced striker could have joined Roma last summer, but Atalanta refused to sell him to the Giallorossi.

“He is happy at Torino where he feels important,” his agent confirmed.

“Hopefully, he will score more goals. He wanted to join Roma before moving to Turin and Roma wanted him too. However, Atalanta didn’t want to sell him to the Giallorossi and after some time this opportunity [to join Torino] emerged.”
