Mario Giuffredi, the agent of Giovanni Di Lorenzo, confirmed that the ongoing contract renewal talks with Napoli are progressing well.

The 29-year-old Italian full back was made club captain by coach Luciano Spalletti in the summer, a decision that has immediately paid off this season. Di Lorenzo has been an important leader on the pitch for Napoli and has played almost every available minute in both Serie A and the Champions League this campaign.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Marte, Giuffredi first confirmed that talks are ongoing to renew Di Lorenzo’s contract with Napoli.

“Yes, it’s close, we’ve started talking about it and we’ll try to close before his return to the pitch.”

He then commented on the length of his client’s new deal with the Partenopei.

“We haven’t spoken about it yet, it could also be for life, because the renewal is not football but corporate, rewarded by the club that wants to make him its symbol, recognises the merits of the person before the player.

“Giovanni has had positive feelings since the summer, he told me that all the new guys who arrived were healthy carriers and were an added value, beyond the technical quality.”

The 29-year-old Di Lorenzo, who joined Napoli in the summer of 2019 from Empoli, has made 21 appearances across all competitions this season, for a total of 1869 minutes. In that time, he’s scored one goal and provided three assists, being a core part of Spalletti’s squad.
