Mattia Zaccagni’s agent has dropped some big hints that Juventus are prepared to swoop if he fails to agree a new contract with Lazio. ‘It is no secret that Cristiano Giuntoli wants him.’

The winger is only under contract until June 2025 and there have been multiple reports that the negotiations for a renewal have not been going well.

“I would prefer not to talk about the transfer rumours around Zaccagni, so I can only say that Mattia is concentrated on Lazio,” representative Mario Giuffredi told TV Play.

“Then, we will see what happens. He is a player liked by many clubs. It is no secret that Giuntoli did everything possible to bring him to Napoli a few years ago and at one point it was all done between Napoli and Verona. So it’s hardly a secret that Giuntoli wants him.”

Director of sport Giuntoli left Napoli over the summer to take over the role at Juventus and has not lost his interest in Zaccagni.

The 28-year-old made the move from Verona to Lazio initially on loan with obligation to buy for €7.3m in the summer of 2021.

So far this season, he has contributed one goal and one assist in 15 games between Serie A and the Champions League.

“Right now, Zaccagni is concentrated only on Lazio and wants to do well with Lazio, then we will see what the future holds. I always said that Mattia would be happy to remain in Rome, that is beyond doubt, but when it comes to a contract renewal, it takes two to reach an agreement. We’ll see what happens.”

Zaccagni also has three senior caps for Italy, but had to pull out of international duty for the most recent matches due to injury.
