Sampdoria and Gaston Ramirez are yet to start talks about a new deal and the Uruguayan will enter the final year of his current deal this summer.

The former Uruguay international, who returned to Serie A in August 2017 after five years in England, has been influential under Claudio Ranieri this term, contributing five goals in his 15 Serie A games in 2019-20.

But the attacking midfielder’s current deal expires in June 2021 and agent Pablo Bentancur, who earlier confirmed Nahitan Nandez has agreed a new deal at Cagliari, revealed the former Southampton player has not started talks with the Blucerchiati.

“He has one year left on his contract,” Bentancur said. “Under Ranieri, who knew him from his time in England, he has done well.

“We haven’t talked about a renewal yet. I think we must go back to playing first, then we’ll talk.

“Football must resume. It’s true that there are risks, but elsewhere things have started again. It would be good for everyone that they return to play in Italy.”
