Mateo Musacchio’s agent claims the defender has been mistreated by Milan, played through injury for the club and is not going to Genoa.

The 30-year-old has not played since February, having undergone ankle surgery and then fallen out of favour with coach Stefano Pioli following the arrival of Simon Kjaer.

He was widely expected to leave in January, as his contract is due to expire in June 2021, but Musacchio’s agent Marcelo Lombilla has other ideas.

“As things stand, Mateo will stay at Milan until July and then we’ll see,” the representative told Calciomercato.com.

“Only I am authorised to speak for him, and despite the reports, I have not had any contact with Genoa. It’s a strange and uncertain situation for everyone, I don’t understand why he has been treated this way when he gave everything for the team, even playing with pain-killing injections, and that caused him the injury.

“However, that is football for you. Pioli was practically fired a few months ago and now he is treated like Pep Guardiola. We have to wait for the right opportunity in life.

“Mateo is a professional, so he is helping and cheering on his teammates for the most important objective, which is to have the team go as far as possible. He never created problems in 13 years of his career in Europe and this will be no different.

“He loved Milan from the first day and continues to love it with all his heart. We never spoke to the club about extending his contract.”
