Lautaro Martinez’s agent Alejandro Camano says the Inter striker is waiting for a contract extension offer and explains why his client snubbed an offer from the Saudi Pro League last summer.

Lautaro is the current Serie A leading scorer with 12 goals in 12 matches. He was named Inter’s captain at the beginning of 2023-24 and Inter are working to extend his contract.

“I don’t know why Lautaro has decided to work with me, but I know why I wanted to work with him,” his agent Camano told Tuttosport newspaper.

“It is an honour to represent him, he deserves a 10 rating for the person he is and the family he has. We are talking about one of the top three strikers worldwide.

“He is a humble person with whom it’s easy to have a nice relationship. He has all the values a good son should have,” continued Camano.

“He is good, honest and selfless. This is why, I think, Intre gave him the captain’s armband. He is a person who embodies the club’s values, not only on the pitch. He is a hard worker but more than anything, he is a humble person.”

Inter director Beppe Marotta has recently revealed that talks to extend Lautaro’s contract have already started and the striker’s agent confirmed it.

“We are in talks to receive an offer that can satisfy Lautaro,” he said.

“It’s not easy because it’s not going to happen from one day to another, but we are working toward a positive agreement. I don’t think there will be problems.

“We are on good terms with Inter and preliminary talks have already begun.”

Camano confirmed Lautaro had snubbed an offer from Saudi Arabia last summer.

“Absolutely and it’s not strange for somebody who has a clear life project with a strong sense of belonging,” he said.

“Lautaro feels well and he feels appreciated by the club. Don’t forget all his successes with the Nerazzurri. We are talking about the Champions League runners-up.”

Inter’s vice-president and legend Javier Zanetti has claimed Lautaro can follow in his path, becoming a Bandiera of the club, one of the most relevant players in the club’s history.

“It’s an honour that he thinks so. He is part of Inter’s history and I’ve known him for a long time, like Hector Cuper, who was a client of mine,” argued Camano.

“The truth is that Lautaro embodies Inter’s values and we all hope to reach an agreement with the Nerazzurri.”

Lautaro joined Inter from Racing Club in the summer of 2018 for circa €25m. He has scored 116 goals in 254 appearances with the Nerazzurri and his current deal at the Stadio Meazza expires in June 2026.

Camano’s interview was published in Tuttosport’s Friday paper edition on page 9.
