Jorginho’s agent confirms Juventus had tried to sign him under Maurizio Sarri, while it is the Chelsea midfielder’s ‘dream’ to return to Italy, ‘hopefully after winning the World Cup.’

The Champions League and UEFA EURO 2020 winner has become one of the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or this year thanks to his trophy haul at both club and international level.

“In the past, when Sarri was the coach, there was a possibility that Jorginho would come to Juventus,” agent Joao Santos told Radio Bianconera.

“The Juventus director made an approach, it was a possibility. I think Jorginho has a good chance of winning the Ballon d’Or, because we usually think of Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, but nobody has won as much as Jorginho this year.”

The midfielder might not be heading to Juventus for Sarri, who is now in charge of Lazio, but the former Napoli and Hellas Verona man could still return to Serie A soon enough.

“He has a contract with Chelsea until 2023. Obviously it would be a dream for him to return to Italy, hopefully after winning the World Cup.

“We’ll have to see what the market looks like in a couple of years and what the other situations are.”

The World Cup will be played in November and December 2022, as the event is hosted by Qatar.
