Lorenzo Insigne’s agent insists his client not being called by Italy was “misinterpreted” by the media.

The Napoli playmaker was not called-up for the friendlies with Belgium and Romania, with some suggesting that the snub was retribution for pulling out of a previous squad with injury.

“It’s normal, that loving his profession, the national team is the pinnacle for him [Insigne] just like any player,” Fabio Andreotti explained to TuttoNapoli.

“He’s a smart lad, he understands that Conte has a large pool of players, and everyone will get their chance, alternating players is fine.

“Conte also specified that it was technical choice, some journalists have misinterpreted that, maybe not understanding the situation.”

Andreotti also took the time to praise Napoli Coach Maurizio Sarri, and his relationship with Insigne.

“It’s an idyllic relationship, that’s always been one of the lad’s best qualities. With [previous Coach Rafa] Benitez, he said on a number of occasions that even if he was playing in a role he wasn’t altogether comfortable with, he respected the choices of the Coach.

“It’s clear that Sarri has faith in him, and it’s clear that the lad is very happy, enjoying this period and the atmosphere in the city which results from a team which is winning in the League.

“The team is winning, we’re still at the start of the season and he’s already got six goals and four assists.”
