Agent Vincenzo Pisacane has claimed Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne has ‘always been a silent leader’ and that the ‘mutiny’ from earlier in the season ‘wouldn’t have happened’ under current coach Gennaro Gattuso.

Insigne was ‘portrayed as the scapegoat’ during the initial troubles this season but his agent has claimed the Italy international didn’t have any unsolved issues with former coach Carlo Ancelotti.

“He has always been a silent captain,” he told Radio Punto Nuovo. “He cares a lot for Napoli.

“Now, I finally see him with a clear head and eager, also thanks to what Gattuso is doing.

“They portrayed him as the scapegoat for the mutiny, which is impossible. There was no problem with Ancelotti, it was only a matter of his role on the pitch.”

And the agent has claimed the mutiny would have never happened under the new coach.

“Lorenzo is a good man; he is not someone who ties things to his finger. A lot has been written in recent months, but the players have responded professionally on the pitch.

“With Gattuso, there would never have been a mutiny.”

Insigne’s current contract expires in June 2022 and Pisacane insists it’s ‘premature’ to discuss a renewal already.

“I prefer to talk about what Lorenzo is doing. He still has two years left on his contract, it’s premature to talk about it.

“[Aurelio] De Laurentiis is a great President; for us agents, Napoli is a safe.”
