Elseid Hysaj’s agent has confirmed that the right-back could stay at Napoli after enjoying a renaissance under Gennaro Gattuso.

Hysaj fell out of favour under Carlo Ancelotti, but the Albanian has gone on to re-establish himself in Napoli’s defence since the appointment of Gattuso, helping the Partenopei win the Coppa Italia last week.

“I’ve never had any problems with De Laurentiis,” Mario Giuffredi told Radio Punto Nuovo.

“There were some misunderstandings over Mario Rui, Di Lorenzo and Hysaj, but they certainly weren’t enough to change my opinion of him.

“When Hysaj moved to Napoli, he was earning €500,000, but it wasn’t a contract I negotiated.

“During [his first] season, I became his agent and the president acted like a fine gentleman, giving him a new contract and appreciating his worth.

“We mustn’t forget that Hysaj was one of the best full-backs in Italy under Sarri, apart from the stint under Ancelotti.

“Now with Gattuso, we’re seeing the same Hysaj from the time with Sarri, when we received an offer from Bayern Munich.

“He’s paying the price for his year-and-a-half under Ancelotti.”

The 26-year-old is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract, so have things turned around sufficiently for him to consider an extension?

“Gattuso and De Laurentiis want to keep him. We’ve talked about a renewal, but it’s not an issue of money: it’s up to him whether he stays or not.”
