Seydou Doumbia “wants to stay in Europe”, but not with Roma, his agent reveals.

The Ivorian striker joined the Giallorossi in January of 2015, but failed to impress and was loaned back to CSKA Moscow.

After the Russian club opted not to sign him permanently, Doumbia was loaned to Newcastle United, but played just 29 minutes of Premier League football.

With the Magpies having been relegated, the forward is likely to be on the move again, but his representative rules out a move to MLS or China.

“The transfer window will open soon,” Jean-Bernard Beytrison told Tuttomercatoweb.

“He wants to stay in Europe, that’s for sure. But he needs to play to express himself.

“The situation with his future must be assessed, we’ll see what happens in the coming weeks. There’s always contact with Roma, but the lad almost certainly won’t play in the Giallorossi shirt.

“Everything is possible. Look at [Hatem] Ben Arfa, he didn’t play at Newcastle and Hull City, now he’s had a world-class season with Nice.

“Doumbia needs trust, he has to play. He’s a striker who has to be let free, he can’t be tied down by tactical aspects.

“He’s always had a sensational scoring record throughout his career, purely because he doesn’t think about it too much.

“He’s an instinctive footballer, he just naturally scores a crazy amount. Now he needs consistency.”
