Alessandro Bastoni has agreed a new contract extension to keep him at Inter, confirmed his agent. ‘We’re basically on the final straight.’
His representative was spotted leaving Inter headquarters in Milan, where he was interviewed by several reporters.
“We are down to the final phases for Bastoni. Over the next few days, we’ll get the details done, but we’re basically on the final straight,” agent Tullio Tinti told reporters.
The centre-back had been considered one of the hottest properties on the transfer market, with interest from the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle United.
However, he never seemed remotely interested in leaving San Siro and the feeling was mutual, so this extension was relatively easy to work out.
Bastoni was purchased from Atalanta in the summer of 2017 for €31.1m and had loan spells with Atalanta and Parma before coming to the Nerazzurri in 2019.
Still only 24 years of age, his current contract only runs to June 2024, so an extension was necessary to stave off a potential Milan Skriniar situation of losing him as a free agent.
The new contract is set to run to 2028.
Tinti also represents Inter coach Simone Inzaghi, who won four trophies in the last two seasons and reached the Champions League Final.
“Simone Inzaghi has proved he is a great coach, so it is only right that he is gratified.”
Another player on Tinti’s books is Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini, who is in discussions to extend his contract in Bergamo.
“Scalvini is such an important player that all of Europe’s top clubs are interested. He is young, he has time to do everything he needs to do.”
Asked if Scalvini had extended his contract with Atalanta, Tinti replied: “Yes, that is the case.”
