Leonardo Spinazzola’s agent assures ‘many people are kicking themselves’ for doubting the Roma full-back, seeing his stellar performances at UEFA EURO 2020 for Italy.

The left-back has made three appearances in the tournament and picked up two Man of the Match awards.

It earned him interest from the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

“I’ve been saying for years that Leonardo is a great player,” agent Davide Lippi told Calciomercato.com.

“I am therefore happy that he is reaping the rewards of his hard work and that some people are now kicking themselves.

“He played for some big clubs, was close to others, but now has to concentrate on his own career path and we hope to make it even better.”

Lippi was asked if Jose Mourinho will be happy to be Spinazzola’s coach, but the response raised a few doubts over the 28-year-old’s future at the Stadio Olimpico.

“If Mourinho will be his coach, yes.”

Spinazzola spent time in the Juventus youth academy, but had numerous loans with Virtus Lanciano, Empoli, Siena, Vicenza, Perugia and Atalanta before his €29.5m sale to Roma in 2019.

He made 39 competitive appearances for Roma this season, scoring two goals and providing eight assists.

Above all, Inter had been on the verge of completing an exchange deal between Spinazzola and Matteo Politano in January 2020, but pulled the plug at the last minute over doubts caused by Spinazzola’s medical tests.
