“We’re talking about one of the greatest players in the history of Italian football,” Silvano Martina said in an interview with LazioPress.
“He’s not just the Juventus goalkeeper, but also the Italian national team. There’s no relationship with the Lazio fans in particular, it’s normal that he’s admired and applauded by everyone.”
Martina is himself a former goalkeeper, spending two seasons with Lazio between 1987 and 1989, and he gave his thoughts on the current Biancocelesti side.
“Getting into the Champions League groups was the main aim for Lazio after a good season last year. Now the team is failing to pick itself up after that disappointment and they’re now getting negative results.
“They’re lacking confidence, there’s no longer the togetherness in the team which set Lazio apart. The elimination in the play-off was fatal.
“When you’re in a negative period, the fans can help a lot. The support of the public can be decisive in times of difficulty.”
