Juventus may not be the only Serie A club facing points deduction this season, as Sampdoria will also receive a penalty if they don’t pay salaries by February 16.

According to Gazzetta, the Blucerchiati haven’t paid wages for the final quarter of 2022 and need €11m to cancel the debt with players and staff members. It’s not over, as the club also needs a capital injection of €35m-50m from the Ferrero family today.

It’s unlikely that the family that still holds a controlling stake in the club will make such an investment, especially because Massimo Ferrero, who resigned as Sampdria’s president after his arrest in December 2021, has been in talks to sell the club for several months.

The club must pay salaries for the final quarter of 2022 by February 16. If it doesn’t happen, the Blucerchiati will get points deduction for the current Serie A campaign.

Dejan Stankovic’s side is already struggling in the relegation zone with nine points in 20 matches. Tension is running high at the club and in the city of Genoa. Last week an envelope containing a bullet and a threatening letter aimed at Ferrero and former President Edoard Garrone was sent to the club’s headquarters.
