Italy international Nicolò Zaniolo could be heading back to Serie A after reports Aston Villa will not take up their option to buy from Galatasaray.

The forward will turn 25 in July and had made the move to the Premier League side on loan at a cost of €5m, with an option to buy for a further €22.5m plus €15.5m in bonuses.

There are some conditions at which that becomes an obligation, but it does not seem as if Zaniolo will be given the opportunity to achieve those targets.

Although Zaniolo has made 26 competitive appearances for Aston Villa, he scored just two goals and most notably he was only in the starting XI on 10 occasions.

According to Calciomercato.it, the English side will send Zaniolo back to Galatasaray, who in turn are likely to loan him out again.

Serie A sides are alert to the opportunity, including Juventus, Milan, Napoli, Fiorentina and Atalanta.
