After Arsenal pulled out due to a COVID-19 cluster, Inter have also formally abandoned the Florida Cup.
They had been due to play against Arsenal in Orlando as part of the pre-season tournament on Sunday.
The winners of that game would then face the victors of Everton vs. Millionarios at the same venue.
Arsenal announced late last night that they were “sadly forced to withdraw” from the Florida Cup following some positive tests among the planned travelling party.
Inter have officially now pulled out too, scrapping their pre-season American jaunt.
“FC Internazionale Milano announce that they will not be travelling to the USA for the Florida Cup due to the current risks involved in international travel as a result of the spread of the pandemic, risks that have already caused Arsenal F.C. to withdraw from participation,” read a statement.
The Nerazzurri had already been anxious about the idea of the tournament, following growing COVID cases in the USA and particularly Florida.
Simone Inzaghi and his squad were meant to fly out to Florida tomorrow.
It now remains to be seen if Everton and Millionarios will go ahead with their game, and if they’ll simply play each other again for the second match too.
