Fiorentina patron Andrea Della Valle promised new buys, was “forced” to sack Vincenzo Montella and slammed Roma over Mohamed Salah.
The club owner was in the stands for tonight’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the International Champions Cup.
“Leo Messi wasn’t there, but we saw what we wanted to. It was the first step and we know full well we have to complete the squad with two or three new buys, but there is no rush.”

This was Paulo Sousa’s first game at the Stadio Franchi, but the memory of an ugly end to the Montella era is still strong.
“Montella represents an open wound,” continued ADV. “My only mistake was trying to convince him to stay when he clearly didn’t want to.
“I was forced to sack Montella and if there are some who are sceptical about that, I don’t understand them. I saw 30,000 people today, so there can’t be that many sceptics.”
Fiorentina are still taking legal action against Salah for breach of contract, although Chelsea have agreed terms with Roma and the player is back in Italy awaiting a transfer.
“Roma could’ve done without taking this action. Now the lawyers are involved. We don’t like to argue with anyone, but this is a very delicate matter. We’ve done what we had to do. If others are relaxed, then they’re lucky.
“Salah wanted to leave and was convinced to go by his agent.”
Mario Gomez has joined Besiktas on loan, but Della Valle was at pains to point out this is temporary.
“Gomez is still our player, we are convinced he can still do well and next year he will return. We wish him all the best.”
