Marcus Thuram has jumped into his Inter adventure with both feet and his decision to reference moments of Nerazzurri history in his celebrations hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The 26-year-old French striker joined the Milanese outfit on a free transfer in the summer, penning a five-year contract with the club. He was targeted in 2021 but an injury caused a possible deal to collapse.

Thuram has shined with Inter since making the move, scoring six goals and providing 10 assists across 19 games in Serie A and the Champions League, forming a strong partnership with Lautaro Martinez.

La Gazzetta dello Sport detailed how Thuram has clearly been paying attention to Inter’s history, referencing multiple former strikers in his celebrations this season.

For his recent goal against Napoli, the Frenchman celebrated by taking off his shirt and twirling it over his head, the same reaction as Adriano after his goal against Milan in December 2005.

Thuram scored against Fiorentina in early September and chose to celebrate by cupping his ears under the supporters at San Siro, refencing Mauro Icardi’s oft-used celebration during his time at the club.

Straight after this goal, he approached Federico Dimarco and matched his typical shrug celebration, a gesture he’s long found amusing.

Later in the game, when Lautaro secured his brace, Thuram ran over and referenced Lukaku’s finger-gun celebration with the Argentine striker, who quickly made it clear that he didn’t want to see that again.

The 26-year-old enjoys using his celebration to pay homage to his idols; after scoring against Benfica in the Champions League back in October, he celebrated by covering his nose with his index finger, referencing a promise made to Thierry Henry.
