Corinthians claim that Roma striker Adriano has given his word to join the club when the transfer window reopens.

Last week, the 28-year-old said he would be prepared to move back to Brazil if things didn't improve under Claudio Ranieri.

Adriano has made just one start for Roma since his arrival from Flamengo in the summer on a free transfer and is yet to score.

Corinthians striker Ronaldo has also revealed his attempts to woo Adriano to the club in the hope of forming a devastating strike partnership.

Corinthians striker Ronaldo has also revealed his attempts to woo Adriano to the club in the hope of forming a devastating strike partnership.

Roma President Rosella Sensi told journalists at the weekend that Adriano wouldn't be leaving the club, but reports in Brazil suggest otherwise.

Speaking to TV Bandeirantes, Corinthians director of sport Roberto de Andrade said: "We have reached a verbal agreement with Adriano and the contract is ready to be signed.

"At this point we are only missing the final word on Roma's behalf."

Globoesporte claim Adriano is prepared to accept a pay cut to play for Corinthians.

He would apparently earn €180,000 a month, which is half of his current pay packet at Roma.
