New Milan signing Yacine Adli, currently on loan at Girondins de Bordeaux, assures ‘you don’t have to think about it when Paolo Maldini calls you up.’

The 21-year-old creative midfielder was purchased for €8m plus up to €2m in performance-related bonuses on August 31, but allowed to remain on loan in Bordeaux until the end of the season.

“You don’t have to think about it for very long when Paolo Maldini calls you up to say that a great club like Milan wants you,” Adli told Telefoot in France.

“It is such a source of pride for me, considering where I came from. I just couldn’t have ever imagined something like this happening.”

Adli started in the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy before he was sold to Bordeaux for €5.5m in January 2019.

He has been compared to Zinedine Zidane, not just because of their shared French-Algerian heritage, and hopes to bring more creativity to the Milan squad from next season.

“I am a different player now compared to at the start, I can make the difference now. We also mustn’t forget I am still only 21 years old and still at the start of my career, so I keep my ears and eyes open, ready for any advice that can prove useful.

“Zidane is my idol, a world class talent and an extraordinary man who I admire so much.”
