Mike Maignan was the star of the show in Milan’s tense win over Fiorentina, and his teammate Yacine Adli revealed that the goalkeeper was suffering from illness in the match.

The 28-year-old Frenchman was one of the Rossoneri’s best players in their Saturday evening clash with the Viola, making four saves and taking 64 touches as he played a key role both defensively and in build-up play.

Maignan is a vital element in Stefano Pioli’s squad and his long absence last season with a calf injury coincided with Milan’s drop in results, reflecting his importance to the club.

Adli added some interesting context to Maignan’s super performance against Fiorentina, writing in the Instagram comments on the Frenchman’s latest post: “40 degrees of fever, without eating anything.”

Despite his illness, the goalkeeper still put in a vital shift at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, ensuring Milan kept a clean sheet despite facing an expected goals on target of 1.43.

The win was key for the Rossoneri, allowing them to keep sight of league frontrunners Inter and Juventus.
