The head of the Partenopei recently declared that the club is ‘not doing too badly’ after picking up the the Coppa Italia and the Supercup over the year 2014.

These results notwithstanding, De Laurentiis has admitted in an interview with Il Mattino published today that it was too early to talk of the Scudetto.

“A mistake that I must own up to is having said in the training camp at Dimaro that we were going to win the Scudetto,” said the film producer.

“The rationality of a President was taken over by the passion of the tifoso. I got carried away.

“Napoli's objective is to always be competitive. Sooner or later the Scudetto will come, but not because one or two players join our team.

“Winning happens when there's a united front composed of the team, the club and the tifosi. The Scudetto will come when the environment is mature.

“We're aiming to stay competitive in the championship, in the Europa League and in the Coppa Italia after the celebrations for the Supercup.

“In Serie A there is a gap with Juventus and Roma, but we're going forward with faith in ourselves, and with the objective of winning every game without being afraid of anyone, as [Coach Rafa] Benitez says.”

De Laurentiis was also asked about the possibilities of seeing a new stadium for Napoli.

“By the end of January we'll have an estimate about the conditions of the San Paolo and in February an evaluation of the working costs.

“Then we'll work on the restructuring project, trying to understand what kind of economic support we can lend to the stadium. The aim is to facilitate those non-football related commercial activities that should help the club's economical and financial balance.”
