The theory had already been suggested if the 2019-20 season could not be concluded on time due to the COVID-19 crisis.
With the Champions League and Europa League decided by a Final Eight tournament this summer, the project is taking hold.
“We are working with the Federation towards the path of Serie A play-offs and play-outs, to break up the damaging consistency of the last nine years,” said De Laurentiis.
He was speaking by telephone at the presentation of a book, which was reported on by Il Mattino and other reporters present.
Juventus have taken the Serie A title for a record nine years in a row, being champions of Italy for over 3,000 days.
