Milan boss Mihajlovic was in the running to replace Rafa Benitez in the Partenopei hotseat this summer before taking charge of the Rossoneri.

“I didn’t make a mistake, I understood that Sarri was the right man for this Napoli,” De Laurentiis said to Il Mattino.

“It just takes patience, and we still want that now despite the great performances against Lazio and Juventus.

“We’re playing well and we hope to continue like this. You are rewarded for hard work and this Coach is someone I like for his obsession with work.

“Sarri struck me with the way he put us in difficulty at the San Paolo and the manner with which Empoli overwhelmed us 4-2 at their ground.

“I met Mihajlovic twice, I listened very carefully to everything he said.

“It seemed to me very connected to his modules, his players, very convinced by what he said and by his way of viewing football.

“I took a moment to reflect, to work out if I was making the right choice to entrust Napoli to him.

“But Mihajlovic wasn’t hanging around…”
