The Partenopei have been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent weeks, with the players refusing to go back to the training retreat following a 1-1 draw against RB Salzburg in the Champions League.

The players decided to go home, with the backing of Carlo Ancelotti.

De Laurentiis in turn decided to fine his players, with Allan reportedly being penalised the most, an eye-watering €350,000.

Reports from today’s newspapers state that the owner met with the squad, following their impressive display in the 1-1 draw at Anfield against Liverpool in the Champions League, and explained his reasoning for the fines.

Tuttosport claim that he met privately with Allan, Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens, as they were viewed as the chief instigators in the situation.

Allan was told his fine was heavy due to his disagreement with Edo De Laurentiis, Aurelio's son and the vice-president.

Insigne meanwhile, was fined because as captain, he didn’t follow orders and return to Castelvolturno, where the club’s ritiro was.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the players will get legal advice from their respective lawyers and try to find a solution.

Meanwhile, it's also suggested De Laurentiis could suspend or reduce the fines if Napoli beat Genk and reach the Champions League Round of 16.

Napoli face Bologna at the Stadio San Paolo tomorrow.
