ADL: ‘Higuain a Prima Donna’

Aurelio De Laurentiis pledged to build a 20,000-seater stadium and claims it was Napoli that made “Prima Donna” Gonzalo Higuain great.

The President sat down with Sky Sport Italia and Mediaset Premium ahead of tonight’s match with Bologna, but he was at a movie premiere.

“I don’t really go to the Stadio San Paolo anymore, because you can’t see a damn thing. I saw three games on TV and realised I couldn’t go back to the old way. Besides, I’ll be travelling abroad a lot now.

“I don’t really go to the Stadio San Paolo anymore, because you can’t see a damn thing. I saw three games on TV and realised I couldn’t go back to the old way. Besides, I’ll be travelling abroad a lot now.

“I want to build a stadium with 20,000 seats, built like a theatre or a cinema with tiered seating. It’ll be a club for those who want to be close to the team and it’ll always be full.

“It’s also down to the fixtures. If we take away the chaff from Serie A, you’ll see how the stadiums fill up.

“Cinema makes you dream, much like football. They are two art forms that sweep you away. I would like to win the Scudetto every season, but there are 20 clubs with the same dream. The important thing is to challenge.

“I chose Maurizio Sarri and it was a great decision, because Napoli’s football is enticing. With Rafa Benitez there were five people preparing games, with Sarri it’s 12. There’s even a drone. Nothing is left to chance.”

Naturally, De Laurentiis was asked about Higuain, who left Napoli for their rivals Juventus over the summer.

“He was a great champion. Real Madrid didn’t make the most of him. When players come to Napoli, they become a Prima Donna, absolute protagonists. Evidently Napoli gets the best out of players. This year, on the other hand, the team plays all together.

“Arek Milik? He moves well in the box and is also good in the air.”
