Francesco Acerbi did not take a photo with waiting fans when he returned to the Inter training ground this afternoon, quietly making his way inside the day after his acquittal.

The 36-year-old Italian centre back was found not guilty of racially abusing Napoli defender Juan Jesus by Serie A sports judge Gerardo Mastrandrea on Tuesday afternoon due to a lack of concrete evidence, a ruling that saw him avoid a potential 10-match ban.

The ruling has already caused shockwaves amongst the fans, with many furious at the decision and rushing to support Juan Jesus whilst others have taken Acerbi’s side, suggesting that the case is closed following Mastrandrea’s controversial ruling.

Calciomercato.com highlights how Acerbi quietly turned up at Inter’s Appiano Gentile training ground today at 12pm local time, arriving two and a half hours early for the training session. Two fans were waiting outside and took photos but were unable to get a selfie as he quickly made his way inside.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi will have a chat with Acerbi in the coming hours to understand his mental state following the recent racism row with Juan Jesus. Whilst he was acquitted by the Serie A sports judge, the fans in Napoli are still furious and put up a banner outside their stadium in support of the defender.
