Inter could get a cut-price deal for Lazio centre-back Francesco Acerbi, on loan with option to buy at the end of the season.

Simone Inzaghi made it very clear he wanted to bring in a new defender to complete the squad following Andrea Ranocchia’s departure towards Monza.

While Manuel Akanji is the first choice from Borussia Dortmund, he would only be available on a permanent transfer and for well over €25m.

On the other hand, Il Messaggero reports that Lazio would be prepared to let Acerbi leave on loan as long as Inter paid his full €2.5m per season salary.

It would be a loan with option to buy for a total €3m, as his contract with the Biancocelesti runs to June 2025.

The 34-year-old Italy international already knows coach Inzaghi well after their years together at Lazio, so would be able to settle in relatively quickly to the tactical set-up.

Acerbi is not part of the Lazio squad for this season after his rapport with a section of the ultras deteriorated beyond repair.
