Inter confirm Francesco Acerbi has suffered a slight muscle strain in his right leg and multiple sources claim the Italy international risks missing next week’s Champions League game against Atletico Madrid.

Acerbi had been subbed off in the second half of Inter’s 4-2 win over Roma on Saturday and underwent medical tests in Milan on Monday morning.

“Francesco Acerbi underwent medical tests this morning at the Istituto Clinico Humanitas in Rozzano,” Inter said in an official statement.

“The Nerazzurri defender has a slight muscle strain in his right leg. His condition will be assessed over the coming days.”

The Serie A giants did not reveal Acerbi’s recovery time, but multiple sources in Italy, including Calciomercato.it and Calciomercato.com claim Acerbi will surely miss the next Serie A fixture against Salernitana and is likely to be ruled out of next week’s Champions League game against Atletico Madrid.

Inter will meet the Colchoneros in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 at San Siro on February 20, while the decider will be played in the Spanish capital on March 13.

Diego Simeone’s men won’t rely on injured striker Alvaro Morata who suffered a knee injury against Sevilla on Sunday.
