Sassuolo defender Francesco Acerbi says “I don’t think about the past” ahead of facing former club Milan.

The 27-year-old was at the Rossoneri for a six-month stint in 2012, but failed to establish himself before leaving during the winter break.

However, he has excelled with the Neroverdi and has become key part of the side that currently sits in fifth place in Serie A.

The two sides will face off at San Siro on Sunday, with Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side currently languishing in mid-table after eight rounds.

“It won’t be easy against Milan, every match is important for us,” he told Sky Sport.

“I will go out on the pitch with the same spirit as always, looking to do my best.

“I don’t think about the past, I’ve made mistakes and I’ve recognised that.

“(Barcelona director Ariedo) Braida in the stand against Lazio? He was definitely watching (Sime) Vrsaljko and (Domeico) Berardi, who are two great players.

“My favourites for the Scudetto are always Roma and Juventus, although I can see a great Napoli team.

“Europa League objective? There’s a project here. We want to do well, we know our potential and we’ll see what happens.”
