Roma forward Tammy Abraham reflected on his upswing in form, his desire to lift another trophy with Roma and his relationship with Jose Mourinho.

The English forward exceeded expectations in his debut season, scoring 17 goals across 37 Serie A appearances, but struggled to replicate that form this campaign, netting just three goals in the run-up to the World Cup break. Since the restart, Abraham has scored two goals and provided two assists, finding a new lease of life on the pitch.

Speaking to StarCasinò Sport, Abraham first discussed his recent upswing in form.

“Yes, the break was good for me, I spent time with my family, I was able to recover my energy. In the meantime, I worked a lot, thinking about football all the time. I told myself that when I come back, I should help the team as much as possible and that’s what I’m doing.

“I think I have more confidence. Football is made of ups and downs, that’s how it works. Now I’m working on myself to get back to my best.”

The 25-year-old Englishman touched on his goals for this season.

“Last year I said I wanted to bring a trophy to Rome and this year it’s the same. We have all experienced what it means to win a major tournament and I would like to experience that feeling again.”

He was asked if he’d like to score more than he did last year.

“Of course, I would like to score as many goals as possible. 27 goals last year was a great achievement, if I could score as many, if not more, I would be happy.”

Abraham touched on his relationship with coach Mourinho.

“As I have often said he is like my uncle in Rome. Before coming here, we spoke, he asked me if I’d prefer to stay in rainy England or enjoy the sun of Rome. I’m enjoying every moment.”

He also spoke about his relationship with Paulo Dybala.

“Before he went to the World Cup, as a joke I told him to win the cup, to do it for Messi and in the end he won it for real. We were all happy for him.

“We watched the final together, when Paulo scored the penalty we celebrated. Now he is back, and we have developed a good relationship on and off the pitch. I like to put my availability on the pitch, just like the Roma fans.”

The English forward commented on how Dybala has changed the Giallorossi since his arrival.

“He has brought something different compared to what was there before. Last season we played differently.

“He gave us that extra something that pushed us to do better. He has so much talent, he can decide games in a minute. It’s nice to have a player like him in the team.”

Abraham gave his thoughts on the Roma fans.

“I’m also very passionate, like them. Wherever I am, I always give my heart and soul, I like to show my passion on the pitch.

“The fans are very passionate, they love their team, just like me. That’s probably why we liked each other right away. I love the fans very much.”

Finally, Abraham discussed how he’s settled in the Italian capital.

“I like going around the city, getting to know the culture. I’ve been to the Colosseum, I’ve seen many places here. To see it in person is crazy. Everyone in the city is very nice.

“I always try to hide as much as possible, but there is no way. The fans always recognise me and are always kind and polite. I’m happy to take photos with them.”
