Tammy Abraham is reportedly still struggling to get to grips with using the protective facial mask after a nasty cut under his eye and is at risk for Roma’s Serie A trip to Cremonese.

The England international sustained the accidental injury during the win over Hellas Verona when his own teammate fell on top of him, studs scratching just underneath his left eye.

It could’ve been considerably worse, but did require a trip to hospital so he could receive stitches.

The placement of the cut makes using a protective mask particularly tricky and the version prepared for him has a window over the left eye, but still makes it tricky to see and co-ordinate, especially when heading the ball or gauging crosses.

According to Il Tempo newspaper, Abraham has a few more days to get accustomed to it, but remains in doubt for Tuesday’s Serie A match against Cremonese.

He came on for the final minutes during Thursday’s 2-0 Europa League play-off victory against RB Salzburg.

Unlike other players who wear protective masks, such as Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, the placement of the cut on Abraham’s eye makes it very tricky to cover without causing further pain.
