Tammy Abraham admits setting up two Paulo Dybala goals against Fiorentina let him ‘learn the other side of my game,’ but now his Roma teammate ‘owes me two assists!’
After winning the World Cup with Argentina in Qatar last month, Dybala cut his vacation short to be back in training with Jose Mourinho.
The work paid off, as he has started 2023 on the right foot, scoring three goals in the last two games, as he also netted the winner in Thursday’s Coppa Italia tie against Genoa.
He scored both of today’s goals on assists from England international striker Abraham, the first a splendid volley, the second a tap-in.
“I saw myself learn the other side of my game today. Normally I want the goals, but today I am on the assists. I am happy for Paulo and now he owes me two assists!” Abraham told DAZN.
This was something of an unusual strike partnership and took a while to get going, but the rapport between Dybala and Abraham is getting stronger as the season goes on.
“Every day we are learning about each other. We had this little break when he went to the World Cup, but now we’re back, every day we are training together, learning about each other and hopefully this will be something great in future.”
Abraham was asked how Roma can improve their performances going forward and with a glint in his eye suggested more service.
“Of course we’ve done well, but every team can improve. For me as a striker, I want more opportunities, more goals, but the most important thing is the three points. It would be nice to score more goals – especially for me!”
